Arsenal no longer interested in signing this 24 Y/O winger in January: What’s gone wrong?

Despite tracking him for a couple of months, it seems like Premier League side Arsenal are no longer interested in signing winger Emi Buendia from Norwich City.

The 24-year-old has been a revelation in the Championship this season, scoring seven and assisting seven in 19 games so far and as per various rumours, the Gunners were planning to make a move for him during the January transfer window.

Now, as per the Express, Arsenal have withdrawn their interest as Norwich City have demanded a transfer fee in the region of £40 million.

The report claims: “Arsenal have decided not to pursue Emi Buendia after Norwich quoted them a £40million fee for the playmaker, according to reports.

“Norwich want £40m for their midfielder, money the Gunners simply don’t have at the current moment in time.”

Should Arteta make a move for the Norwich City man?

Emi Buendia has been on fire for the Canaries during the 2020-21 season and a player like him can very easily uplift Arsenal’s forward line for the remainder of the season.

Nicolas Pepe and Willian have been really average since the start of the campaign and right now, it’s young Bukayo Saka who has been doing that right winger’s job for Mikel Arteta.

But the amount Norwich City are currently demanded is way out of reach for Arsenal, especially since they have other priorities too.

Mikel Arteta’s prime focus right now will be to find a long-term replacement to Mesut Ozil and bringing in someone world-class will require a lot of money.

We can understand why Arsenal have shelved their plans of signing Emi Buendia this month but if the Norwich City winger can keep performing at this same pace then a lot of other clubs will queue to get his signature during the summer transfer window.
