Not ‘Pep’d Up: Is Guardiola loosing the plot

Before Pep Guardiola came to Man City he only had feathers in his hat and fairytales to tell.

Barca Magic:

Previously he had managed the likes of Bayern and Barcelona. At Barcelona, he took the reigns from Frank Rijkaard and turned the team into somewhat of a folklore. He introduced the Tiki Taka brand of football, and suddenly the whole world was watching. He took a great Barcelona team and turned them into legends. La Liga’s, De Rey’s, UCL’s name it, and Barca was winning it all under Pep Guardiola.

Second spell at Bayern:

At one point of time, Pep decided that he had won everything on offer with Barca and started searching for a new challenge. So he packed his bag and headed to Germany to coach Bayern Munich. But it was just like moving to a new house where you take all your favourite furniture with you. Guardiola took Tiki Taka to Germany and within no time Bayern were a force to reckon with. Bayern won three championships, two domestic league cups, a super cup and a club world cup under Guardiola.

City comes calling:

In 2016, Guardiola decided he needs to try his hands at managing an English club. And that is when Man City came calling. He came to the blue half of Manchester with a huge reputation and lots of trophies. He knew what he was going ‘to’ offer but somehow he failed to gauge what was ‘on’ offer. He had never been in a league which was so competitive, demanding and physical. To be very honest, Pep has never been handed over a so-called ‘average’ team. At Barca, he inherited Rijkaard’s team which was already a force to reckon with. And at Bayern, he was handed a Jupp Heynckes team which was great too.

It looks as if he has just stumbled upon a road block and is taking some time to get up. But the level of skill and expertise he possesses it is no doubt that he will bounce back and so will his team. But looking at the nature and unpredictability of the premier league no one can say what will exactly happen.
