Arsenal are ready to send this first-team player to Italy but only for a fee of €40M: Should Arteta hold onto him instead?

Serie A side Atalanta are seemingly interested in signing Arsenal full-back Nuno Tavares and even the Gunners are now ready to offload him, claims Di Marzio.

Tavares only joined Arsenal last summer from Benfica but the left-back has failed to impress, despite featuring in 22 Premier League games for Arsenal.

It looks like Mikel Arteta has lost faith in the defender which is why he’s ready to send him out but only for a fee of around €40 million.

Di Marzio is claiming that the Gunners want either a simple loan deal without any option to buy or else they want to add an obligation to buy for the aforementioned price. However, Atalanta are not too keen to walk on both these paths.

Should Arsenal sell off Nuno Tavares or should they hold onto him?

Thanks to Kieran Tierney’s constant injury woes, Nuno Tavares got a lot of game time at Arsenal this season but the left-back has been really underwhelming. He played 1177 minutes in the league but could only manage a single assist.

In defence, he’s looked shaky and in the attacking areas, he’s looked completely out of ideas. Forget, capturing the left-back spot, Tavares is not even capable of becoming the understudy to Kieran Tierney.

Another reason why Mikel Arteta does not need to hold onto the 22-year-old is that they are close to securing the signing of Aaron Hickey and the ex-Hearts man can be a very apt backup to his national mate.

Multiple reports are claiming that Arsenal have beaten the likes of Villa and Newcastle to the signing of Hickey and once he arrives, the manager will have no need of Nuno Tavares.

However, there’s no way Atalanta will agree to pay such a steep fee for such an average full-back so either Arsenal will have to compromise on a middle ground or they will have to keep him in their books and then try to offload him during the January window.
