Celtic manager Neil Lennon has made it clear that he wishes to hold onto his forward Odsonne Edouard beyond the summer despite strong interest from Newcastle United.

The Frenchman has been in peak form this season for the Scottish side and this is why he has gathered a lot of interest from England with NUFC reportedly being the frontrunners to signing him at the end of the season.

But now the Celtic boss has claimed that he wishes to hold onto the 22-year-old.

Talking about the prospect of Odsonne Edouard leaving Celtic, Lennon said, as reported: “Ideally, we’d like to sit down with him.

“The landscape’s changed, there’s no question, from where we were a month ago, to now. It’s uncertain.

“So ideally, you’d like to keep your prized assets at least another year anyway and then if the market sort of re-galvanizes itself we can look at it then.

“But no question there’s going to be interest in him but ideally, we’ll tie him down for another year on top of what he has already and keep him here.

“The flip side of that is we could look at other clubs, who are maybe struggling, and maybe we could pinch a few ourselves that possibly we wouldn’t have been able to afford previously.”

Newcastle United are badly in need of attacking reinforcements for the upcoming season meaning they will surely try their level best to bring Odsonne Edouard on board but these comments from Neil Lennon might be a really big cause of concern for the Magpies.

Another major reason why the Premier League side might fail to get their hands on the forward is because some rumours claim that Celtic will be asking for around 50 million pounds to let Odsonne Edouard leave which could be a really steep price for Steve Bruce’s side.
