Leicester & Villa have to rethink their transfer strategy if they wish to sign this 23 Y/O forward: Here’s why

Odsonne Edouard Celtic FC

Premier League sides Leicester City and Aston Villa have been heavily linked with a move for Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard this summer but the deal might be more complicated than it actually looks.

Odsonne Edouard has been a goal-scoring machine for the Scottish side ever since he joined them from PSG in the summer of 2017 and with just one year left on his current deal, this is the perfect time for the Parkhead outfit to cash in on him.

Recent reports have suggested that a transfer fee of around £15 million should be more than enough to secure a deal for Edouard but if the Daily Record is right then clubs like Leicester City and Villa have no other option but to match Celtic’s original demands of £20 million.

The report claims: “Celtic stand to bank a profit of just £5.5m on Odsonne Edouard this summer – if their £20m price tag is met.

“Record Sport understands that – despite wildly fluctuating reports – the sell-on clause in the deal which took the club’s record signing to Parkhead from PSG three years ago is a whopping 50 per cent of the difference between that £9m transfer and his next move.

“A source directly involved in Edouard’s switch from Paris Saint-Germain to Celtic Park three years ago has told Record Sport that even if the £20m valuation is met that would leave the Hoops just over £5m in profit.”

Leicester City have missed out on Champions League football next season so Brendan Rodgers will not have a massive transfer kitty this summer. And this could really affect how the Foxes look to approach the deal for Odsonne Edouard.

If the 50% sell-on clause is right then there’s no way Celtic will be ready to accept £15 million for the centre-forward, despite him having just one more year on his current deal.

It’s still unclear how this thing will pan out but some pundits think Odsonne Edouard is really keen to play in the Premier League next season and his eagerness to move out could really affect Celtic’s position in the transfer, eventually forcing them to cave in.
