Man United knocked Liverpool out of the FA Cup with a 3-2 win at Old Trafford on Sunday and it was Bruno Fernandes who ended up scoring the winning goal for Ole’s side.

Bruno Fernandes was left on the bench as Donny van de Beek got a rare start but the Portuguese came on in the second half and scored a brilliant free kick with 12 minutes left on the clock.

And talking about the hard decision to leave the playmaker out of the starting XI, Solskjaer explained how the Portuguese made sure he hit the back of the net.

Speaking after the match, the Man United manager said, as reported: “Brilliant – you know when you go a goal down the reaction of everyone was really good.

“We played some really good stuff, good goals, we have to defend well against them and we managed to react well and of course towards the end there were some moments but we kept them away.

“Great goal, good free kick. When you leave him out like I did today, he stayed about 45 minutes after training yesterday shooting free kicks so I was pretty confident he could score one if he got the chance.

“He’s never happy with me when I tell him to go inside after training when he’s playing the next day so he got some practice yesterday.”

This was Fernandes’ 16th goal of the 2020-21 season from his 29 appearances and the notion that he cannot live up to the expectations against the big sides has just been shattered – at least temporarily.

There will no time to celebrate this win as Man United are back in the Premier League this midweek when they take on Sheffield United at Old Trafford.

And there’s no way Bruno Fernandes will be warming the benches against the Blades.
