Chelsea have been unable to sign any new players this summer transfer window which means Tammy Abraham, Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi are the only three recognised strikers in the squad.
And as of now, the pairing of Abraham and Olivier Giroud seem to have been getting most of the game time under new manager Frank Lampard.
While Tammy Abraham is no doubt the first-choice striker for the Blues but Giroud too has seen a fair bit of playing time – having been on the pitch for 100 minutes across 3 Premier League.
We accept this is not enough for such a top striker but if the Frenchman cannot keep his mouth shut then surely he will be playing even less.
Recently, Olivier Giroud was asked about his lack of playing time to which he claimed that he was not happy thereby sending a sort of warning to the Blues manager.
Giroud told Le Figaro(as reported): “Obviously not. I have goals in my head.
“I’m here to help the next generation, but the time for retirement has not come.
“I’m still hungry and have a lot of ambition. I don’t want to be Chelsea’s No.2 striker, for sure.
“Just because I’m here as an older brother for the younger players, it doesn’t mean I’m out on the sidelines.”
We feel the manager might not take this statement lightly since clearly there is very little competition upfront for Chelsea meaning both Abraham and Olivier Giroud will get a lot of game time during the course of the season.
But some people feel the manager will take this statement in a positive way thinking that his most experienced striker is not ready to give up his place in the first XI without a fight.
Chelsea are attacking all fronts this season and if Olivier Giroud can keep scoring goals every time he gets a chance to play then there is no way the manager can keep him on the bench for the whole campaign.
