England kicked off their World Cup campaign with a 2-1 victory over Tunisia on Monday and it was Harry Kane who helped the Three Lions gather all three points.

Kane scored the first goal of the game courtesy of a tap-in but Tunisia fought back and eventually equalised from the penalty spot 10 minutes before halftime.

For the longest time, it looked as if the Three Lions would have to be content with a solitary point in their opening game much like a lot of other big teams in this year’s World Cup but it was captain Kane who stepped up once again and scored an injury-time header to snatch a victory.

After the match, all the major media houses in Britain have given mixed reviews about England’s performance but all of them have been highly praised, Harry Kane.

All of them except Paul Merson.

The former England international who is currently working as a football pundit on Sky Sports have very contrasting views about the Spurs’ striker and branded his performance ‘poor’.

Paul Merson said“If I’m being honest – and I’m one of his biggest fans – I thought he was poor,

“He scored the two goals, but he brings more to the team than that. He’s not a Gary Lineker, who would touch the ball twice and score two goals and that’s what he brought to the team.

“They need Harry Kane to hold the ball up, get involved and bring other players into the game. I don’t think he did that.

“That’s being a little bit too critical and I’m thinking ahead to the knock-out stages.”

If you have been following Merson and his remarks then you would know that the pundit is not new to the world of absurd comments and judgement.

Merson has been trolled several times on social media for his outrageous comments and this time was no different after England fans jumped to the support of Harry Kane.

According to Whoscored.com, Harry Kane was the standout performer for England during their World Cup opener against Tunisia. But then everyone is entitled to make an opinion no matter how infamous it might be.
