Jose Mourinho Spurs Premier League

There’s no denying that ever since Jose Mourinho took charge of Manchester United, the Red Devils have been on a rise – especially from where the club was under the regimes of David Moyes and Louis Van Gaal.

But this progress under the former Chelsea boss has come with its fair share of critics.

While United have been able to up their game under Mourinho a number of pundits have claimed that the manager has ruined the playing style of Manchester United.

And this was very much evident during United’s previous two pre-season friendlies where the Red Devils failed to make any sort of impression.

Even Jose Mourinho came out to slam his players claiming that they looked more like a bunch of players rather than a team.

“We are not a team. We’re a group of players from different teams,” he told MUTV.

“Some are first-team, some under-23s, some coming from loans and going on loan, some are younger, under-18s.”

The United boss also went on to add that this was to do with the fact that a number of first team players are missing from the US tour as they are spending their holidays after the World Cup.

But former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes is having none of these excuses.

Talking to beIN Sports, the United legend said“(Mourinho) doesn’t look happy to me,

“As a football person, if you’re a coach and you see your team playing – he may be happy [with the style of play].

“It’s a team who grind out results rather than really impresses you – and that’s probably what he is happy with, that’s where he has been at his best over the years.

“If Guardiola was manager of Manchester United he would hate what he was seeing – and it would be different.

“But, the most important thing to him is results, he will be judged on that.”

Last season, Man United finished second on the Premier League table – 19 points behind champions Manchester City. And the biggest challenge for Jose Mourinho this coming season will be to claw down that huge gap.
