Steven Gerrard was named as the new Rangers FC manager during the first week of May and on Friday the former Liverpool U-18 coach took his first training session at Murray Park.

And during his first meeting with the Rangers FC players, the message from Gerrard was loud and clear.

Perform or perish.

The new boss has warned his players that he demands very high standards at Ibrox and whoever fails to do that will eventually be shown the door.

Gerrard said: “There’s been more than one message

“It’s great to meet them. I was really excited coming in this morning. They need to get used to me and I need to get used to them and that’s going to take time.

“I only know high standards so that’s what I’m going to demand. This club only knows high standards. We’ll demand that as a staff and we’ll expect the players to come to the party.”

Ever since taking charge of the Scottish outfit, Gerrard has made six new signings and the manager has hinted that he is not done yet.

“It’s difficult to gauge where we are. There’s still going to be people that are added. There’ll be people that move on,” he added.

“We want leaders all over the pitch. We want leadership throughout the staff. A club this size needs leaders all over the place.”
