Philippe Coutinho desperately wanted to join Barcelona during the summer but the Liverpool management kept blocking the move. But almost everyone knows by now that Barcelona’s interest in the player is far from over and the Catalans are sure to come for him in the new year.

But a major obstacle for Barcelona will be the fact they have a very high wage bill. Their current wages have increased 21 percent as compared to last year and according to Don Balon the La Liga giants are planning to offload a long list of players during January. As per the report, Barcelona can sell as many as 5 players. The likes of Arda Turan, Thomas Vermaelen, Rafinha, Andre Gomes and Paco Alcocer are all set to be shown the door just to pave the way for Philippe Coutinho.

Another big reason as to why Barcelona must get the Brazilian at any cost because both Lionel Messi and Luiz Suarez want him at the Nou Camp by next summer. And if the club fails to do so then their  is a fear that the senior players can cause a rebel. The report also suggests that Lionel Messi will only sign a contract extension when Barcelona can manage to bring in a big name player – preferably Philippe Coutinho.

Liverpool take on Huddersfield this weeknd in the Premier League and you can check out how Jurgen Klopp is planning to line up his team here.
