The Premier League is currently suspended till the 3rd of April due to the COVID-19 outbreak and as things are going right now, there’s very little chance that the tournament will open its gates for the fans anytime soon.
Apart from the EPL, almost all the major leagues in Europe have been suspended due to the pandemic but the Premier League still has 92 games to play which is higher than any of the other top leagues in Europe.
And due to this, there is now a mad scramble to come up with a plan of finishing the leagues especially in case things do not start getting better.
While a number of suggestions have come in from declaring the season null and void to playing with 22 teams in the next season but right now, the Sun are claiming that some league clubs might have come up with a new solution to this problem.
The report claims: “Their masterplan is to play all of the remaining 92 games BEHIND CLOSED DOORS with every game in neutral venues at a separate time, live on TV.
“The proposal offered by a section of Prem clubs would see two or three grounds host the games, most likely in the Midlands.
“The League’s big guns spoke to Uefa chief Aleksander Ceferin as they have more matches left to play than the likes of Italy and Spain.
“Clubs will offer up their revolutionary proposal at a crunch Premier League meeting tomorrow.
“Grounds could even stage MORE than one game a day with teams playing every THREE DAYS in a race to pack in the fixtures, if and when the government grant approval.”
Will the Premier League be played behind closed doors?
The Premier League is due to commence after the 3rd of April but as things stand right now, we are pretty confident that this deadline will be missed.
But UEFA has been really proactive in helping out the domestic leagues which is why they have chosen to postpone the EURO 2020 until next summer and the Champions League and the Europa League finals have also been postponed by one month.
And this has been done so that the domestic leagues can finish the remainder of their games even is their current resuming deadlines are missed.
So while playing the remaining of the Premier League games behind closed doors is a very realistic possibility, this solution will once be used in case the suspension date is pushed further back.
