The Premier League schedule has turned into a major mess as four more matches from matchweek 18 have just been postponed.

Earlier today, Saturday’s game between Manchester United and Brighton had to be called off due to a COVID outbreak in the United camp and now the authorities have just announced that several other matches will also not be played.

The official statement read: “It is with regret that the Premier League Board has postponed a further four matches due to be played this weekend.

“The League understands fans will be disappointed these matches have had to be postponed and apologises for the inconvenience and disruption caused. All other fixtures due to be played this weekend are currently scheduled to proceed as planned.

“The Board has agreed to postpone the matches after assessing individual club requests this evening.”

Which Premier League matches have been postponed?

The fixtures which have been postponed are(apart from the Man United vs Brighton game):

Saturday 18 December
15:00 Southampton v Brentford
15:00 Watford v Crystal Palace
15:00 West Ham United v Norwich City

Sunday 19 December
12:00 Everton v Leicester City

Will the Premier League be stopped due to COVID?

Man United have already seen two matches called off this week due to the COVID outbreak but till now, the EPL are showing no intentions to halt the Premier League as a whole.

The authorities have made it clear that they are assessing the situation on a case by case basis meaning they will only postpone matches if there is no other option left on the table.

Some people might argue that this is not the way to go but we can understand why the Premier League authorities are not moving with haste.

As it is we are in the busy winter schedule and rescheduling even this handful of games will turn out to be a nightmare for all the teams as well as the authorities.
