Recently, there has been a lot of talk about ‘Project Restart’ in the Premier League circuit and all the top division clubs are due to meet on Monday to discuss the finishing the 2019-20 season.

Up until now, a lot of discussions has happened on this issue and recently there have been some rumours that the Premier League could be back in the first week of June.

But now UK’s Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden has warned that the EPL has not yet gotten the permission for a restart but he remains hopeful none the less.

“They’ve not been given the green light,” Dowden told BBC Radio on Friday, as reported.

“If we can get a plan that works then I’d like us to be able to go ahead with it because I think it would be good for the nation, it would be good for football as a whole.

“I’m really hopeful we can get this up and running but public safety must come first so it’s only if we’re confident of that, we’ll be able to proceed.”

Will the Premier League be able to resume?

The first thing the EPL authorities will have to do is to bring all the clubs on the same page since even a few clubs rejecting the proposal of a restart will cause the whole project to crumble.

But the Bundesliga restarting this month has given a lot of hope to the Premier League that they too can get things back on track once the situation permits.

Also, neither UEFA nor FIFA want any of the big European leagues to shut their doors abruptly as that would lead to a major financial crunch for everyone involved with these tournaments.

The UK government is clearly going to stand by the FA to help them finish the season in its entirety but one thing’s for sure, the government will only give the green light to the tournament once the situation in the country is under control and also when the PL management can come up with a full proof plan to restart the games.
