The Premier League is the most popular football league in the world.

And there are a number of reasons behind it.

Yes, the games are competitive and a number of teams are evenly matched. But one of the main reason why the Premier League is leaps and bounds ahead of the likes of La Liga or the Bundesliga is the fact at how the games are broadcasted.

Broadcasters like Sky Sports make a great deal of effort to bring the best of entertainment to the viewers watching at home.

But this Sunday was a totally different scenario for the fans watching at home.

Sky Sports marked the last day of the weekend as Super Sunday – a term used when some high profile games are to be played in the Premier League.

This Sunday though, there was only one game on offer – Cardiff City vs Burnley. And the fans who watched the game at home were bored to death.

During the match, the ball was in play for only 42 minutes and 2 seconds and the rest of the time was utilised for time wasting.

Cardiff’s centre-back alone spent Sean Morrison spent over eight minutes taking throw-ins.

And the fans were noticeably displeased with the match.

Premier League news: New rule to come into effect?

This match was so bad that reports suggest the International FA Board (Ifab) are contemplating new laws which could put an end to time wasting.

“We all want to crack down on major time-wasting and increase playing time but the fundamental question is how we do it,” an Ifab source said.

The Ifab are looking at a number of ideas which could be used to prevent time wasting. But the popular idea which has been going around is the referee stopping his watch between when a set piece is given and he only starts back the clock once the game resumes.
