Kelvin Stuttard from Pixabay"/>The Premier League is currently suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic but it seems like the authorities have already made plans to restart the league.
Announcing the further delay, the Premier League released a statement which read: “At a meeting of Premier League Shareholders on Friday, clubs discussed in detail how to respond to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
“It was acknowledged that the Premier League will not resume at the beginning of May – and that the 2019/20 season will only return when it is safe and appropriate to do so.
“The restart date is under constant review with all stakeholders, as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic develops and we work together through this very challenging time. The Premier League is working closely with the whole of professional football in this country, as well as with the Government, public agencies and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the game achieves a collaborative solution.
“With this, there is a combined objective for all remaining domestic league and cup matches to be played, enabling us to maintain the integrity of each competition.
“However, any return to play will only be with the full support of the Government and when medical guidance allows.”
And now the Mirror is reporting that the Premier League are already planning to resume their remaining matches in the month of June and have pitched this idea to the United Kingdom government.
The report states: “The Premier League are at an advanced stage in talks with the Government over a return for football in June.
“Mirror Sport understands there is a tentative agreement for the top flight to resume behind closed doors after the 20 clubs mapped out a plan with senior officials on a resumption of matches.
“In principle, with Government health officials hopeful of a coronavirus peak in the UK in the next few weeks, they will sanction games under strict guidelines.
“The plan – which has been discussed at the highest level – would see games played under strictly-controlled conditions behind closed doors.
“League officials have also discussed extensive measures to keep the players in a sterile environment as much as possible, limiting contact with the wider public.”
The report though also makes it clear that while the government officials have tentatively agreed to the plans but if the situation does not get better in the coming few weeks then the restart could be further delayed.
UEFA have made it clear that the domestic leagues will have to be wrapped up by August meaning the Premier League authorities still have time to finish their matches but with each passing weeks, the teams will have to be ready to cramp in more matches.
