Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling as the England international is yet to put pen on paper to a new deal.

The 26-year-old’s current deal with City expires in 2023 and as per a Daily Star report, Sterling wants a significant pay rise in his new deal(the main reason for the sluggishness).

The exclusive report claims: “Arsenal are keeping a close watch on Raheem Sterling’s contract talks at Manchester City, Daily Star Sport understands.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is a huge admirer of the England winger, 26, and had an excellent relationship with him during his days as Pep Guardiola’s number two at City.

“And Sterling, with only 20 months left on his current deal, is one of those at the top of the North Londoners’ list of potential transfer targets.

“[Talks]are moving ‘slowly’, according to sources close to the club – amid Sterling’s financial demands and his continuing struggle to command a regular starting place in Pep Guardiola’s side.”

Will Raheem Sterling agree to join Arsenal?

Manchester City have signed Jack Grealish this summer and he operates in the same role as Raheem Sterling. So, Sterling moving out of the club in the near future is something that cannot be ruled out at all.

But, at the same time, there’s very little chance he will agree to leave Manchester City in the hopes of joining Arsenal.

City are one of the best teams in Europe right now whereas Arsenal are still struggling to get back into the Champions League. This is why there’s virtually no way Raheem Sterling will want to ply his trade in the Europa League in the coming years.

Also, Arsenal will not want to inflate their wage bills by offering Sterling crazy amounts of money since if he turns out to be a failure then Mikel Arteta will have an Ozil 2.0 situation on his hands.

The Gunners would love to bring the England international on board but we doubt if he will agree to join them, no matter how his performances pan out at Manchester City this season.
