Chelsea and Real Madrid could make a move for this 27Y/O Arsenal transfer target: Do the Gunners even stand a chance?

Raheem Sterling Man City

Arsenal have shown an interest in signing Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling but according to the Daily Telegraph’s Matt Law, London rivals Chelsea could also consider making a move for him.

If this was not enough bad news, then the Daily Star is claiming that Spanish giants Real Madrid have also shown an interest in the England international since he is yet to decide on his future.

Sterling has a year remaining on his Man City contract but still, he remains an integral part of Pep Guardiola’s plans at the club. However, there’s a chance he might refuse to put pen on paper to a new deal and venture out. The arrival of Grealish has not helped his cause one bit because the winger left winger has had to play out of position multiple times this season.

Is Chelsea and Madrid’s entry bad news for Arsenal?

Arsenal might look to test the waters by putting in a bid but since they have missed out on Champions League football, it will be next to impossible for them to convince Raheem Sterling. They are likely to see a cut in their transfer budget and with multiple areas to fix, we don’t think Arteta can afford Sterling.

A player of his calibre will never agree to play in the Europa League so, in practicality, Arsenal don’t even stand a chance to be able to sign him in the summer.

As per Matt Law, Chelsea will make a move for the forward only if they decide to sell one or all of Werner, Ziyech and Pulisic. We don’t think Ziyech or Pulisic is going out but with the kind of season Werner has had, the manager might very well show him the door.

Sterling shouldn’t have any issues moving to London but he’s a fan of the Los Blancos so some experts think Real Madrid actually have the best odds to secure this deal.

Will Man City be willing to cash in on Raheem Sterling?

Gabriel Jesus reportedly wants to leave Manchester City and if that happens then there’s no way Guardiola will allow the sale of Raheem Sterling.

Jack Grealish is still trying to find his feet at the club so Pep won’t want to see all the backups leave at one go. If Jesus and Raheem Sterling both leave then the manager will have only Grealish, Ziyech and Phil Foden as his wide options.

We don’t see Sterling leaving during the upcoming transfer window and with just one year remaining on his contract, there’s a possibility that Man City will try and make him sign a new deal this year itself. He’s scored 13 and assisted five goals in 30 Premier League games this season so there’s no way Guardiola will let him leave for free or for a cut-price deal.
