Raheem Sterling Chelsea England

Champions League winners Real Madrid are set to rival Chelsea in the signing of Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling reports The Guardian.

Sterling’s Man City contract is expiring next summer and he is yet to enter talks over a new deal. Reports suggest the two parties will sit down in June to determine the future of the winger and if Man City want to hold onto him or will Guardiola allow him to leave.

Both Chelsea and Madrid are said to be keeping tabs on this whole situation and the name of Bayern Munich has also been floating on the horizon. Raheem Sterling has scored 13 and assisted five goals in 30 Premier League goals this season so all these sides know how valuable he can be and they are just waiting for Manchester City to make up their mind.

Guardiola bought in Grealish last summer and Haaland will be arriving in the next few weeks so at least on paper, the City boss does not need to offer Sterling a new contract.

Real Madrid or Chelsea: Which club should Raheem Sterling choose?

Most of Chelsea’s forwards have been a flop this season and chances are, Tuchel is going to get rid of most of them. The buzz in England is that Ziyech, Pulisic and Timo Werner will all be put up for sale.

If all three leave then Raheem Sterling will face little to no competition for a role in the first XI and since Tuchel plays with a 3-4-2-1 formation, the winger will have the opportunity to play in multiple positions in the final third.

However, the lure of Madrid is far great than Chelsea’s and in a recent interview, he even admitted that playing for the Los Blancos in the future remains a possibility.

He said, in an interview with AS: “No one knows what the future will hold. I am a player and I am always open to challenges but right now my challenge is at City and I’m really happy. I have a contract with City now and I have to respect this.

“Real Madrid are a fantastic club. When you see the white shirt you know exactly what the club stands for, it’s massive.”

If Madrid come calling then Chelsea will definitely move down the pecking order, despite them having a massive transfer budget.

Manchester City, on the other hand, will have two of the biggest clubs to fight it out for Raheem Sterling because then they will be able to get the maximum value out of a player who currently has just over 12 months left on his contract.
