Rangers FC might be favourites to sign 20-year-old Rhian Brewster from Premier League side Liverpool next season thanks to their prolific manager Steven Gerrard.
Rhian Brewster was sent out on loan to Swansea City at the start of the current year and he’s really impressed for the Championship side so far. This season, the centre-forward has played in 11 Championship games for Swansea and has managed to net four goals.
The 20-year-old is wanted by Rangers on a loan deal but as per the latest rumours, Swansea City are also keen to keep him at the club for one more season.
This is a serious problem for Rangers FC but according to Alan Hutton, Steven Gerrard could prove to be the decisive factor in this transfer during the summer.
Hutton told Football Insider: “Yeah, it’s massive. From a personal point of view from the player, going somewhere where you know the team, as in the backroom staff, gives you a leg up, if you like.
“They know you, they know you inside out, how you can perform, what you’re good at – there’s nothing really to prove in that sense. Obviously you need to prove it on the pitch but they know what you’re capable of.
“It’s easy to settle in then. I think that will be a massive swing for Rangers if they can get him because they know him so well. Gerrard has worked with him before, he’ll know that and he might want to continue that relationship.
“It’s a good link to have and I think he’d be a great acquisition for them.”
Steven Gerrard has a great rapport with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and this has helped the Gers manager bring in a lot of youngsters from Anfield over the past two years.
And the former England international could once again work his magic this summer but there’s one major problem.
Rangers FC already have two top quality strikers in the form of Alfredo Morelos and Jermaine Defoe at the club and we have serious doubts if Rhian Brester would want to join the Scottish side if he cannot be guaranteed playing-time during the 2020/21 season.
