Rangers FC have signed 27-year-old striker Kemar Roofe from Anderlecht on a four-year deal, the club have officially announced.

The official statement read: “RANGERS are delighted to confirm Kemar Roofe has joined the club on a four year deal for an undisclosed fee.

During his time at Leeds, he quickly became a fans’ favourite, forging a reputation as a prolific goal scorer. He was regularly nominated for, and awarded EFL Championship Player of the Month during his spell in Yorkshire, which led to a move to Belgium.

“Kemar will join up with his new teammates when they return from Germany.”

The centre-forward moved to Belgium last summer from Leeds United and during the 2019-20 season, he featured in 13 Pro League matches, scoring six and assisting two goals.

After signing the contract, Roofe said: “I am delighted to join Rangers and look forward to meeting up with my new teammates.

“Rangers are a huge club, with ambition and I know this is the right fit for me to progress my career.

“I am looking forward to experiencing Ibrox and am excited to play in Europe.”

Alfredo Morelos has been linked with a move out of Ibrox this summer and it’s clear that Steven Gerrard is busy strengthening that position before the Colombian heads for the exit doors in the coming weeks.

Right now Jermaine Defoe is out with an injury meaning Kemar Roofe will serve as the perfect backup to Morelos in the Premiership.
