Will Rangers FC sell this 23 Y/O defender just to raise funds this summer?

Rangers FC centre-back George Edmundson is surplus to the requirements at the club right now which is why he could be shown the door.

According to ex-Aberdeen forward Noel Whelan, the Gers could cash in on the 23-year-old, especially since he got into the club’s bad books after breaking COVID protocol recently.

He said Football Insider: “It was an easy sale when he got himself into bother.

“He put himself in the shop window. Not through any performances but when you are ill-disciplined and you let the club down there is a good chance you’re going to be sold.

“Money for a player you don’t want to have is fantastic. I think it’s best for both parties that he does leave in the summer.

“I don’t think he has any hope of playing for Rangers again, he blew that opportunity. He brought the club into disrepute.

“I don’t think Rangers will stand in his way and they have more than enough cover in his position.”

Recent reports have suggested that Rangers FC have received multiple offers for the sale of George Edmundson but as of now, the Gers are holding out since they want at least £1 million in transfer price.

The Scottish side already have Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, Jack Simpson, Leon Balogun and Nikola Katic as their centre back options so there’s no need for Edmundson at the club next season.

And given that he has two more years left on his current deal, Steven Gerrard’s side will be able to get a decent enough transfer fee for the 23-year-old this summer.

The defender spent the second half of the 2020-21 season out on loan to Derby and as per TransferMarkt, he is currently valued at £450,000.
