Rangers FC vs Napoli

Rangers FC are in a financially strong position right now which is why they have decided not to part ways with defender Connor Goldson during the ongoing summer transfer window, according to The Athletic.

Jordan Campbell writes: “The word is that Rangers are not under pressure to sell players to help with finances, despite needing more money to be injected.

“Rangers remain in a healthy position with most of their top talents but Connor Goldson’s contract remains the one with question marks over his future.

“Although they are keen to tie Goldson down, it is understood their position is that he signs a new deal or sees out the remainder of his contract and moves for free next summer after four years at the club. His contribution is felt to be worth more than any value they would gain from cashing in on him for a reduced fee in this window.”

Should Rangers hold onto Connor Goldson?

Rangers FC signed Connor Goldson from Brighton in 2018 and according to Noel Whelan, Steven Gerrard should be worried about the contract situation of the 28-year-old.

Whelan said, Football Insider: “It is a big worry, absolutely. He was so important to them last season. We all know what a good player he is and he is the one constant in that backline.

“I’m sure there is a huge amount of respect between him and Steven Gerrard.

“Negotiations over new contracts are never as easy as you think. Rangers will have a finite amount of money that they can pay in wages but talks will be ongoing.

“To be honest, I can see him signing a new deal. He is at a club that is going in a great direction. He has the Champions League to look forward to this year.”

Since Rangers FC are not in any financial trouble, they seem relaxed about this whole scenario but Connor Goldson is currently valued at £6.75 million so if he moves out as a free agent then it will be a big loss for the Scottish club.

Gerrard will obviously try hard to make him agree on a new deal but if he fails to convince him then the club are set to lose on a big amount.
