Ipswich Town seem to have agreed on a deal to sign Rangers FC centre-back George Edmundson, according to a report in Football Insider.

The report claims: “Rangers defender George Edmundson has agreed to join Ipswich Town, Football Insider has learned.

“The League One big hitters are poised to sign the centre-back, 23, and end his two-year spell at the Light Blues.

“Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that Rangers have agreed to sell Edmundson permanently to Ipswich after they fended off interest from EFL rivals.”

Can George Edmundson still shine at Rangers FC?

George Edmundson joined Rangers in the summer of 2019 and the defender was set to have a really bright future with the Gers.

But over the past two years, he has fallen down the pecking order, spending the second half of the 2020/21 season out on loan and so for someone who is valued at £450,000, a fee of around £1 million seems to be a very decent deal.

Also, Rangers FC currently have several defenders in their squad(Connor Goldson, Filip Helander and Leon Balogun) and the return of Nikola Katic from his long-term injury has pushed Edmundson even further down the order.

The 23-year-old has played in only 17 games for Steven Gerrard’s side till date so a transfer fee of £1 million is a job well done from Rangers FC.
