Rangers FC manager Steven Gerrard is expected to do some business during the January transfer window – according to reports.

The Teddy Bears boss signed a number of players during the summer but most of them have arrived at the club on various loan spells.

And now if the rumours are anything to go by then the Gers are planning to bring in a few permanent players at the start of the new year.

Amongst the long list of desired players, one name is that Marcus Maddison.

Who is Marcus Maddison?

Marcus Maddison is an attacking midfielder/winger who currently plays for Peterborough United in League One.

Maddison is an academy graduate from Newcastle United but the 25-year-old failed to break into the first team set-up and eventually moved out of England in 2013 without playing a single game for the Magpies.

Marcus joined Peterborough in 2014 and since then he has played 177 games for the club scoring 42 times.

This season he had already made 15 appearances for the League One side but is yet to score a goal.

Maddison is a freekick specialist who is said to have a superb left foot and his playing style has been compared to Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil.

Why does Steven Gerrard want him?

Steven Gerrard has a number of midfielders currently at his disposal but most of his top performing ones have been brought in on loan so naturally at price tag of just £0.3 million Marcus Maddison will be nothing short of a bargain.

Plus the 25-year-old can play on either wing and has done so on many occasions which will surely work in his favour when and if Steven Gerrard decides to make a move for him.

Rangers FC who are flying high after a 7-1 drubbing of Motherwell will take on Livingston at home this weekend in the Premiership.
