Scottish Premiership side Rangers FC have rejected multiple offers from English clubs who want to sign their 23-year-old centre-back George Edmundson, according to Football Insider.

The report claims: “Rangers have rejected multiple bids for defender George Edmundson, Football Insider understands. The centre-back was loaned out to Derby County at the end of the January window.

“A Rangers source has told Football Insider English clubs are keen on taking advantage of Edmundson slipping down the Ibrox pecking order.

“It is understood a number of English sides have lodged bids for Edmundson but Rangers have rejected them so far.”

Why isn’t Rangers ready to sell George Edmundson?

George Edmundson joined Rangers in 2019 but in these past two years he has been of no use to Steven Gerrard. In fact, he spent the second half of the 2020/21 season out on loan to Derby where he ended up making 10 appearances in the Championship.

The Gers already have Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, Jack Simpson and Leon Balogun at centre back and Nikola Katic will also return from injury this summer.

A few months ago reports had claimed that Rangers will allow George Edmundson to leave this summer if a club is interested in playing £1 million for him. Now it looks like Gerrard has changed his mind.

We still can’t wrap our head around this news since the 23-year-old has only two years left on his contract with the club. The only possible reason why the Gers manager is not ready to send Edmundson out is maybe because he is planning to sell some of his current first-team defenders which will then push the Manchester-born lad up the pecking order.
