Rangers won their first home game of the new Scottish Premiership season against St Mirren on Sunday and with that Steven Gerrard’s fine run as the new Gers boss continues.

The Light Blues have already signed 11 new players during the summer transfer window but the manager is reportedly trying to bring in a couple of new signings before the end of the month.

The English transfer window closed down last Thursday after which all the English clubs can only sell players until the end of August. And Gerrard is planning to use this situation to his advantage.

According to the latest reports, Rangers are planning to make a move for Stoke City defender Erik Pieters in the coming few days.

Erik Pieters played 31 games in the Premier League last season for Stoke but is now ploughing his trades in the Championship after Stoke were relegated to the second division at the end of last season.

Reports have it the 30-year-old is desperate to move out of Stoke City permanently and is hoping to play in the top division this season itself.

And the Gers are hoping to use this desperation to their advantage.

Rangers are planning to make a move for the defender in the coming few days but it is still unclear whether Stoke City are interested in selling him off – given that Erik Pieters was one of their star performers in an otherwise disastrous last season.

But Rangers are hoping to land the player before the end of the month and are banking on the fact that the Erik Pieters can force a move out of the club.

Rangers play their next game this midweek when they travel to Slovenia to take on Maribor in the Europa League at the Ljudski vrt stadium.
