Liverpool have been keeping tabs on Rangers youngster Josh McPake for a number of months now – if reports are to be believed.

The Reds have spent heavily on player transfers last year which meant that Jurgen Klopp would be looking to bring in some young talents to his setup during the current transfer window.

And Rangers man, Josh McPake has been tipped for great heights by the Gers management.

The Anfield outfit were expected to make a move for the winger this summer and no one really expected the winger to reject a calling from the Champions League winners.

But if recent reports are to be believed then Josh McPake is set to snub Liverpool and sign a new contract with the Teddy Bears.

The Rangers U18 man is yet to break into the first team setup but Gerrard most certainly holds him in high regards and many pundits had claimed that the youngster could be promoted up the pecking order next season.

But with Liverpool’s interest looming large, everyone was certain that Rangers would not be able to hold onto him and would have to let him leave for a cheap transfer fee – given that McPake only has one more year left on his current deal.

Now though the Herald are reporting that the Teddy Bears will be given him a new deal which will keep him at the club until 2023.

The report stated: “RANGERS youngster Josh McPake will commit his future to Ibrox next week when he puts pen-to-paper on a new deal until 2023.”

Rangers are currently out on a pre-season summer camp in Portugal and Josh McPake will sign the new deal once the squad returns back to Scotland.

This will certainly be a bit of setback for Liverpool since Josh McPake has been creating a lot of buzz for the Gers in the U20 circuit. So now either Jurgen Klopp will have to wait for another year to sign the Rangers man or he will have to find a replacement.
