Chelsea want to sign a new central defender during the ongoing transfer window and according to Defensa Central, the current European champions are eyeing a move for either Raphael Varane or Sergio Ramos – both of whom are already on the radar of multiple clubs.
Sergio Ramos is set to be a free agent this summer while Raphael Varane has also been tipped to move to the Premier League next season which is why Chelsea are trying really hard to get one of them on board.
The report claims: “The coach, if that happens, wants to fill the vacancy with a category centre-back and, as Central Defense has been able to corroborate, the two names he likes the most: Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane.
“He knows that in the case of the first he could get it totally free, with a single payment of the token and the amount requested by his brother René to arrive as a free agent, while he also knows the situation of the second.”
Raphael Varane or Ramos to the EPL next season?
This interest from Chelsea will not go down well with Manchester City as well as Manchester United since both of them have been linked with these two defenders.
Man City boss Pep Guardiola is a huge admirer of Ramos and the Etihad outfit are reportedly ready to offer the Spanish defender a two-year deal at the club plus an offer to play in the MLS after his stint ends in the Premier League.
ESPN reporter Rodrigo Faez wrote on Twitter: “They value a 2-year offer + MLS option in New York City FC (although it varies depending on performance + player priorities).”

Raphael Varane has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United with Solskjaer viewing him as the ideal partner to Harry Maguire next season. The defender has one more year left on his current deal and right now he is stalling over talks of a new contract which is a big indication that he wishes to move out.
The entry of Chelsea is sure to make things interesting since they have just won the Champions League and this trophy can help attract some of the best players in the world.

Chelsea already have a senior pro in Thiago Silva so we are not sure why they will want to sign Sergio Ramos as well. But making a move for the 28-year-old Varane makes much more sense.
Real Madrid could demand £70-75 million for the sale of the French defender which is something both Manchester United and Chelsea are capable of paying. So we doubt if either one of them will back out from this deal.
As far as Sergio Ramos is concerned he will be a free agent at the end of this month so any club that is willing to sign him will have to be ready to pay inflated wages to the Spanish international.
