Real Madrid have refreshed their forward line with the introduction of Kylian Mbappe and according to reports, their next plan is to revamp their defence.

This season, Carlo Ancelotti is working with only a handful of defenders but the manager has plans to bring in at least two new signings next year. The first name on the list is Trent Alexander-Arnold, someone who was constantly linked with Madrid throughout the summer transfer window.

The Real Madrid manager also wants to add a new central defender to his squad and at the end of this season, the club will try to land either Cristian Romero or William Saliba. While both their names have been mentioned, Los Blancos will sign only one of them.

Do these transfer targets make sense for Real Madrid?

Carvajal is 32 years old while Lucas Vazquez is 33 so it’s a no-brainer that Ancelotti has to bring a new and young right-back next summer.

The Real Madrid manager is very fond of Trent Alexander-Arnold and even though Liverpool have no intentions to sell, the La Liga giants will give it their all. The right-back is yet to sign a new deal with Liverpool and this will give massive hopes to Florentino Perez.

The England international has scored 19 goals and made 81 assists in 314 games for Liverpool and currently, he is one of the best right-backs in the whole of Europe. Even though he makes a few lapses in defensive situations, in the La Liga, that should not be a big problem.

Cristian Romero won’t mind leaving Tottenham to join a team like Madrid but we think, Ancelotti will be more interested in signing William Saliba from Arsenal.

In recent seasons, Saliba has been one of the most consistent central defenders in the Premier League and he will be a top recruitment. Initially, Saliba was sent out on loan but since 2022, the French international has been a constant figure in the backline for Arsenal. Last season, Saliba had a rating of 7.2 out of 10 from 50 games and this campaign, he is averaging 7.4 out of 10.

Both William Saliba and Cristian Romero are contracted until 2027 but Saliba is valued at €80 million while the Argentine defender’s valuation is €65 million. If Real Madrid put in a good enough offer Tottenham will happily cash in on Romero however, it will be really difficult to convince Arsenal to sell one of their best players.
