Real Madrid beat Celta Vigo 4-1 and they are now just one point away from being the La Liga Champions. Their first since 2012.

Ronaldo scored a brace in the match for Real Madrid and thus became the highest goal scorer in Europe’s top-five leagues. Ronaldo’s two goals took his tally up to 367 goals, surpassing the 46-year-old record held by Jimmy Greaves.

Benzema and Toni Kroos scored the two other goals for Madrid on the night as Zidane’s men picked up all three points. But the scoreline does not reflect the full reality of the match. Real Madrid were made to sweat and fight for the three points by Celta. Celta Vigo themselves created a string of chances but it was their lack of finishing that led them down.

And to make matter worse for Celta, Iago Aspas was sent off by the referee just around the hour mark. The referee showed a second yellow to Aspas for diving. But the replays clearly showed that the referee had been harsh with his decision making.

With Aspas being sent off, any hope of a Celta fightback was all but lost. They did manage to pull one goal back through Guidetti in the 69th minute. But the goal did nothing to affect the final outcome of the match.

Ronaldo sets a new milestone:

With the two goals against Celta Vigo, Ronaldo has now become the leading goalscorer in Europe’s top five leagues(League goals only).

The previous record was held by Jimmy Greaves who played for clubs like Chelsea and AC Milan. Ronaldo is now on 367 goals surpassing Greaves’ record of 366. Ronaldo could have easily had a hat trick on the night but the Portuguese missed a sitter.

Still, hope for Barcelona?

Real Madrid are now just one point away from being crowned the La Liga Champions. This means that they will just have to effectively secure a draw against Malaga on Sunday.

Barcelona need to win their final game against Eibar and hope that Real Madrid loses their match against Malaga. If Real Madrid were to loose on Sunday and Barcelona win against Eibar then both the clubs will be tied on points. This will mean that Barcelona will be crowned the Champions due to a superior head to head record between the two clubs.

But with the form that Real Madrid are in no one expects them to lose against Malaga.
