Real Madrid are desperately trying to sign a new right-back next year and according to a report in HITC, the La Liga giants are interested in signing Chelsea’s Reece James.
James has been one of the best right-backs in the Premier League in recent seasons but constant injury issues have hampered his career. Currently, his market value is only €40 million and his contract with Chelsea is set to expire in 2028.
The new Blues manager feels Reece James cannot be a constant feature in his plans due to his injury woes which is why the club is now ready to cash in on him. Real Madrid, however, have the same problem because as per rumours, Los Blancos will only bring him on board if the England international can free himself from his constant injury struggles.
Should Real Madrid be serious about signing Reece James?
Since the 2019/20 season, Reece James has missed 124 games for club and country and currently, he is on the sidelines with a hamstring injury. His return date is unknown and there’s a fair chance that he will be on the sidelines for the next couple of weeks.
A few seasons ago, James was a top talent for Chelsea and England however, his injuries have massively deteriorated his talent. Chelsea will be more than happy to take in €40-50 million for the right-back however, we think Real Madrid should steer clear from this transfer.
A team like Madrid play 50 to 60 games every season and there’s no way Reece James will be able to keep himself fit for that long.
Madrid have also been linked with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and it will make much more sense if they go after the England international. Yes, Perez will have to shell out a premium fee for TAA but the Liverpool man is yet to sign a new deal which means he will be available for around €60-70 million at the end of this season.
Spending that much on Trent will be very much justified rather than signing Reece James and then keeping him in the treatment room for most of the season.
We firmly believe Real Madrid are just exploring their options and they will not go after Reece James. The La Liga side will eventually make a move for Alexander-Arnold because they are already in contact with the player’s agent for several years.
