Chelsea defender Reece James has been out with a knee injury and as per The Athletic, the right-back will not be needing surgery to correct the problem.
The report claims: “Chelsea have been handed a boost after a scan on Reece James’s knee showed he will only need surgery as a last resort, Simon Johnson can reveal.
“The Athletic has been told that James got the results back on the scan on Sunday morning.
Chelsea are now planning to rest him for a few games as a result, rather than James going under the knife.”
This is a huge boost for Frank Lampard since Reece James can now return to action within the next couple of weeks.
James will now get an extended break meaning Cesar Azpilicueta will return to the starting line-up on Monday against West Ham United in the Premier League.
Reece James has been one of Chelsea’s most important players this season and his absence will most certainly be a big blow for the manager.
Azpilicueta has not been at the top of his game in recent months but the experienced defender should be able to do the perfect job.
Apart from Reece James, The Athletic has also revealed that Hakim Ziyech will not be fit enough to be in the matchday squad against West Ham United on Monday meaning Christian Pulisic will play on the right-wing.
