Chelsea’s Reece James has been selected for the England squad for the upcoming friendlies but there’s a chance that he could drop out.

The right-back suffered a hamstring injury at the end of 2021 and just when he was about to return, he picked up another muscle injury, ruling him out for a few more weeks.

Reece James has just returned to individual training last week which is why Chelsea are about to ask Gareth Southgate to drop him from the Three Lions squad.

The Chelsea boss said, as quoted: “Petr Cech will have this chat because of course the recommendation is that he does not go.

“He’s still in individual training, otherwise we would have brought him to Lille and we would have brought him here, for sure.

“There is no doubt about it. He is still in individual training, needs one more week of individual rehabilitation and I think we can provide this much better. It’s not the job of the national team to do this.”

Reece James wants to use this international break to get back to match fitness which is why Chelsea will ask the England boss to leave him out.

Who will replace Reece James in the England squad?

Reece James and Trent Alexander-Arnold were the two right-backs in the England squad but just a few days ago, the Liverpool full-back was ruled out with an untimely hamstring injury.

Liverpool have confirmed the injury and as per the initial updates, TAA will be out for a few weeks.

“Trent is out with a hamstring [injury] so he will not be part of as England as well,” Klopp told the press. “Not good news, we will see how long that takes.”

Now, if Reece James also pulls out then Gareth Southgate will have to turn to Manchester City’s Kyle Walker.

Walker was left out of the England squad because Southgate wanted to focus on youngsters for these two friendlies but now that Reece James and Alexander-Arnold are both set to miss out, the Man City man should get a call-up.

James’s recent months have been riddled with injuries so Chelsea will really push for him to be left out and we don’t think Gareth Southgate is going to stand in the way.
