Renato Sanches

Liverpool are currently the frontrunners in signing Lille midfielder Renato Sanches – a player who was once likely to join FC Barcelona, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The report suggests: “After Wijnaldum’s refusal and the uncertainty with Ilaix, Koeman wants a physical midfielder with a journey and Renato Sanches meets the profile, but the latest information that arrives from France indicates that his incorporation seems almost impossible given the delicate economic situation the Barça club is experiencing.

“In this scenario, the most likely destination of Renato Sanches would be Liverpool and Lille hopes to earn some 40 million euros for the Portuguese footballer, an amount that Anfield expect to reduce.”

Renato Sanches a gamble signing for Liverpool?

Renato Sanches was on the verge of joining Barcelona but due to their financial condition, Liverpool will have a free run to signing the central midfielder.

And since Liverpool are yet to replace Wijnaldum, a player like Renato Sanches should be the first priority signing for the Anfield outfit.

But having said that, Lille are demanding around €40 million for the sale of the 23-year-old and at that price point, he can be a bit of a gamble signing.

Sanches has failed to live up to the hype he had created when he was a youngster and if cannot hit peak form at Liverpool then Jurgen Klopp will be under a lot of trouble.

The 23-year-old joined Lille in 2019 and in 60 games for the French club, he has managed to score and assist only 10 goals.

Liverpool have also been linked with players like Saul Niguez but the Anfield outfit have made no real progress in that area. And maybe this is why they are taking strides towards Renato Sanches.

Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Liverpool are trying to bring in new signings before the transfer window shuts down and there’s a big chance the Lille midfielder could be the biggest acquisition in the next few weeks.
