Rodrigo Moreno to Arsenal
Rodrigo Moreno to Arsenal

Arsenal seem to have found a replacement for Aubameyang in the form of Valencia’s 29-year-old forward Rodrigo Moreno – as per reports.

Aubameyang is supposed to leave in the summer with clubs like Manchester United interested in signing him and Rodrigo Moreno has been narrowed down by Mikel Arteta as the potential replacement.

Moreno has been with Valencia since 2015 having joined from Benfica and this season, the 29-year-old has managed to score two goals and make nine assists in 21 La Liga matches.

The forward reportedly has a £110m release clause in his current deal but Valencia are expected to let him leave for just half that price making him the ideal choice for Arsenal.

Is Rodrigo Moreno the right man to replace Aubameyang?

Rodrigo Moreno is undoubtedly a very good and experienced player but we are not quite sure he is the right man to replace someone like Aubameyang.

The Gabon international has already scored 17 goals in the Premier League this season whereas Moreno has managed to net only 10 goals in his past 54 league matches for Valencia.

Aubameyang is an out and out goalscorer and Arteta needs to bring in someone who can do the exact same job for the Gunners next season – if Auba was to leave. And we just do not see Rodrigo Moreno filling that void at the Emirates.

Also, the player is currently 29 years old and to spend £55 odd million on him makes no sense at all.

If Aubameyang leaves Arsenal then the Gunners are expected to get a pretty decent transfer price for him and Arteta should use that money to rope in a younger centre-forward who can be of use for at least the next couple of years.

As per the report, Arsenal have made enquiries about Rodrigo Moreno in the past couple of days but we do not see this deal materialising any further during the summer transfer window.
