Chelsea and Man City want to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this summer but if they miss out then the two Premier League sides are likely to turn their focus to Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku.

Eurosport claim: “Both Manchester City and Chelsea see Romelu Lukaku as the ideal Erling Haaland back-up plan as they head towards the next transfer window.

“City and the Blues intend to pursue Haaland as their prime forward target, yet if they fail to sign the Borussia Dortmund star then attention will turn to Lukaku. It’s a situation that could certainly arise, given both would have to break their transfer record to sign the Norwegian striker. Dortmund do not want to lose Haaland and have set his price-tag at €180m.

“The policy of both City and Chelsea going into the summer will be intriguing as they battle for the same players.”

Is Romelu Lukaku likely to join Chelsea or Man City?

Romelu Lukaku has been in red-hot form for Inter this season, scoring 19 goals in just 26 Serie A games. And he’s one of the most important players in Conte’s squad at the moment.

The manager will definitely not want to part ways with his main man but Inter Milan are low in finances meaning they could think of selling Romelu Lukaku if a good enough offer comes by.

Chelsea have a good chance of signing the 27-year-old given that he is an ex-Chelsea players but if Lukaku chooses a move to Manchester City then he will have the opportunity to challenge(and possibly win) all the major accolades in England as well as in Europe.

City are going to part ways with Sergio Aguero meaning Romelu Lukaku will more or less be a guaranteed starter if he decides to join the Etihad outfit.

On the other hand, Chelsea have players like Timo Werner, Giroud and Tammy Abraham who play in the same role as the Belgian international.

Dortmund want around €180 million in exchange of Erling Haaland meaning someone like Romelu Lukaku will be a much cheaper alternative should Chelsea and Man City decide to sign him.
