Romelu Lukaku has made a positive comeback to Chelsea but the forward seems to have picked up a knock during the international break.
Lukaku found the back of the net against Czech Republic on Sunday but he had to be taken off late in the match due to a minor niggle.
And now the player has confirmed that he will undergo further tests to determine the extent of the injury and will then return to Chelsea.
He told HLN: “I will have a scan of my thigh first. I am struggling with a minor issue for a while. And then I will return to Chelsea”.
Will Romelu Lukaku start against Aston Villa?
Chelsea take on Aston Villa next weekend in the Premier League and if the injury is a bit worrying then Thomas Tuchel will not risk naming him in the matchday squad.
The Belgian will be itching to perform after his poor display against Liverpool right before the break but Tuchel has Timo Werner as a backup, plus Villa are not the strongest opponents.
After the Aston Villa game, Chelsea take on Zenit in the Champions League so the manager will not want to put Romelu Lukaku under unnecessary pressure and risk aggravating the injury.
The manager can use Werner up front and even Kai Havertz can play in that role so Lukaku’s injury will not be an immediate cause of concern for him.
The 28-year-old has played in two Premier League matches since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, scoring one goal.
