Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel wants to bring in a new centre-forward for the new season and if everything falls into place then the Blues should be able to sign former Man United striker Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku had a really poor spell with Manchester United from 2017 till 2019 but ever since he’s moved to Italy, the Belgian international has transformed his career. During the 2020/21 season, he scored 24 goals and provided 10 assists in 36 Serie A games for Inter Milan.

Chelsea want to bring him back to the club where he spent five years but so far, Inter Milan have been reluctant to part ways with one of their biggest first-team assets..

Inter Milan has been financial troubled ever since the pandemic hit and now president Steven Zhang has publicly stated that they will have to make some sound monetary decisions.

“From the first moment we took over Inter we thought that [Antonio] Conte would be the best coach for our project,” Zhang told Gazzetta Dello Sport.

“Two years ago we finally managed to bring him to the Nerazzurri. I was and remain convinced that Conte is a winning coach: this is the reason that led us to invest so much in him and in the team in the last two years.

“Last summer the pandemic had greatly affected our revenues but we continued with him, focusing on the season convinced that we could win. The decision was right, but now the bill brought by the pandemic is such that we cannot fail to review the situation by looking for savings that lead to a future budget balance.

“We must reduce costs and control risks. This obviously also influences the transfer market strategy. Our different views on the situation led to the separation.

“What wasn’t fundamental for him, was for the club, and vice-versa. Conte is a top coach, but as president, I have to think about the solidity of the club.”

This statement has immediately been met with rumours that Chelsea might finally be able to sign Romelu Lukaku during the ongoing transfer window.

Lukaku had a really poor time with Manchester United but his stint with Everton was dotted with goals so signing him should not be a major gamble for Chelsea at this point in time.

The Blues have also been linked with players like Harry Kane and Erling Haaland but at £90 million, Romelu Lukaku will be the cheapest centre-forward available in the transfer market.

Inter Milan need to raise £68 million this summer but we are sure they will want to do that by offloading some of the unwanted players before they even think of showing players like Lukaku the exit doors. So Chelsea need to be patient or they can always go out and spend £150 million to sign Harry Kane.
