Cristiano Ronaldo has got off to a flyer in the 2018 World Cup scoring 4 goals in just two games and in both these games it was the Real Madrid man who turned out to be the difference between Portugal and their opponents.
Ronaldo scoring abundance of goals is not a rare sight for his fans and for people who have seen him play for both Real Madrid and Manchester United will know that the Portuguese had no lack of confidence.
Now speaking about Cristiano, his former Man United captain Roy Keane has revealed how the forward was full of confidence even before he became a Red Devil.
United had signed Ronaldo from Sporting Lisbon back in 2003 for just £12million but that move could have turned out very differently as the Old Trafford outfit had given the player an option to stay on loan at Lisbon for the next season.
Speaking to ITV, Roy Keane said: “That option was given to him at 17 years of age to stay on-loan at Lisbon,”
But being the man he is, Cristiano Ronaldo who was just 17 years old at that time chose to move to Manchester United and prove his mettle.
“But the guy stuck his chest out and said ’no I want to go over there’,” Keane added.
“If you remember when he first came to United as a young kid, he was getting criticised for going down too easily.
“Saying that he still does that, let’s be fair he’s not perfect.
The Portuguese fans, as well as the players, should thank their captain who has literally carried his team to so far in the World Cup and they now have one foot firmly set on the knockout stages of the tournament.
