Manchester United are frantically chasing Frenkie de Jong but if they fail to land the Dutch international then United will shift their focus to Ruben Neves.
United have been trying to sign De Jong for more than a month but their process is very sluggish and there are constant fears the Premier League side might fail to bring him on board.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the Wolves midfielder is one of the backup players who could be the subject of Man United’s interest if they fail to sign Frenkie De Jong.
“I’m sure they have some alternatives. Ruben Neves is a player, that last summer, was already on the list. He’s always been on the list of Manchester United, and is really appreciated.” Romano told GiveMeSport.

Will Man United shift their focus to the Wolves man?
Frenkie de Jong is obviously the priority target for Manchester United but we are still not sure if the club will be able to sign him or not.
While some rumours are claiming that the club are very close to securing the transfer, others are suggesting that Man United have a long way to go in this race.
United are still in talks with Barca but the Camp Nou side have rejected several bids up until now.
Erik ten Hag wants to assemble his new-look squad as early as possible so that he has enough time to work with them and in a bid to do so, Man United could very well shift their focus to Ruben Neves.
If the Red Devils feel they won’t be able to sign Frenkie de Jong then they will undoubtedly trigger Plan B.
Is Ruben Neves going to be a good fit for Man United?
Ruben Neves has been linked with Man United for more than a year and the club had tried to sign him last summer as well.
There’s no doubt Frenkie de Jong is a much better player than Neves but the Wolves man has been slaying it in the Premier League for five years.
Since 2017 the midfielder has played in 212 games for Wolves and in the previous two or three seasons, Neves has been the midfield fulcrum for the team.
It won’t make sense to compare De Jong and Ruben Neves but as a singular signing, the Wolves man can be a very dependable signing for Manchester United. He’s well versed with the pace and physicality of the English league meaning he won’t take any time in settling down at Old Trafford.
