Saints forward Danny Ings might not sign a new deal at the club and amidst this, the 28-year-old is reportedly wanted by Jose Mourinho at Spurs next season.

Ings has a little more than a year left on his current deal with Southampton and he’s holding off a new deal as he wants to assess his other options before putting pen to paper on the contract.

And even manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has admitted that both the player and the club will have to work in sync if they wish to go through with the deal.

“We have at the moment, a tricky situation for every club I think in the Premier League,” the Southampton manager said.

“Everybody is losing a lot of money in this crisis we are going through. We can only do what we are able to and what is healthy for us. I think Danny shows us that he wants to be with the club, we know that he is an important player for us.

“I hope that we find an agreement and finally he stays with us. If not, life will go on, and this club will also exist and, hopefully, we can find a way that we can both live with.”

And just when Spurs were being linked with Danny Ings, former Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor thinks the former Liverpool man would be a perfect fit at Arsenal.

He told talkSPORT: ”It’s very tough, isn’t it? You see what happened at Liverpool with him. He didn’t get much game time.

“Southampton is a club he feels at home at and he’s playing football and getting into the England squad. Does he want to move now and play second choice to Harry Kane at Spurs? That could cost him a place at the Euros!

“For me, I’d stay where I am and try and come to an agreement with Southampton. He would suit Arsenal at the moment. You look at [Alexandre] Lacazette and he’s come into some decent form, but you put Ings into that Arsenal team at the moment and he would definitely score goals.

“But Southampton fans may argue that Southampton might finish above Arsenal this season. He’s probably thinking to himself, ‘I’m on fire here, I’m scoring week in, week out, and I’m one of the better strikers in the league, so this is my chance at 28 to get that massive deal and sign a four or five-year contract’. You want what you’re worth. If you’re speaking to other players and they’re earning a certain amount, he’ll be thinking, ‘I deserve the money’.

“As much as he loves it at Southampton, if it’s his last big pay day he’s probably thinking I need to get it.”

Danny Ings has already scored seven goals in 13 Premier League games for the Saints so far this season and Hasenhuttl will do everything to make sure the centre-forward agrees to the terms of the new deal.

Spurs manager Jose Mourinho will obviously try and sign him during the summer no matter how the talks between the two parties end up but we seriously don’t think Arsenal will be too eager to make a move for him in the summer.

Mikel Arteta has a few problematic areas to deal with in the summer and the centre-forward department isn’t one of them, especially with Gabriel Martinelli now back to full fitness.

There had been talks of Arsenal looking to offload Lacazette but the Frenchman seems to have won the trust of his manager so the last thing Arteta would want is to sell him and spend money on a new striker for the 2021-22 season.

As things stand, Danny Ings will either sign a new deal with the Saints or he will try and force a move to Tottenham during the summer.
