Premier League clubs Liverpool and Chelsea have made contact with the representatives of midfielder Saul Niguez over a possible summer deal, as per Sport Witness.

Atletico Madrid are open to selling their midfielder for the right price and if this report is true then Chelsea and Liverpool are now the frontrunners in this transfer race, despite Barcelona initially making the most efforts.

The report cites Marca saying: “Monday’s edition of Marca has a big article on the future of Saul Niguez, with it stated the Premier League is the solution for his Atletico Madrid exit.

“The first part of Marca’s article concentrates on Manchester United, as it’s reported the Old Trafford club is the most likely destination for the midfielder.

“However, it would appear that information is coming from English reports, and Marca’s own information is centered more around Chelsea and Liverpool.

“The Spanish newspaper states both Chelsea and Liverpool have been in contact with Saul’s agents over a potential summer move.”

Chelsea & Liverpool to steal a march ahead of Man United?

Barcelona are willing to offer Antoine Griezmann in a swap deal but that story seems to have cooled down and if the fresh rumours are true then Saul Niguez is likely heading to the Premier League.

Liverpool want the 26-year-old as a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum while Chelsea seem to be eager to add a bit of depth to their squad before the new season begins.

Some rumours are also suggesting that after a wonderful European Championship, Jorginho might look to head back to Italy which is why Chelsea are moving for Saul.

Apart from these three clubs, Manchester United are also linked with the Spaniard as Ole is not sure if Paul Pogba will sign a new deal or not.

If Paul Pogba agrees to sign a new deal then we doubt if Man United will try and go after the Atletico Madrid man.

UPDATE from Fabrizio Romano:

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided a concrete update saying that none of the three Premier League sides have held talks with Atletico Madrid yet despite the player being ready to join the Premier League.

“I’m told about Saul, it’s a possibility if the deal will collapse with Barcelona,” Romano told The United Stand.

“At the moment Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are in a quiet moment in the negotiations (for a Saul/Griezmann swap deal) but it’s not 100% collapsed yet from what I know.

“Saul is open to moving to the Premier League but at the moment there is nothing advanced with Manchester United, Chelsea, or Liverpool.

“He knows these three clubs are interested in the situation but in the transfer market, it’s not like FIFA. You can call the agent or the club to ask about the player and this is what Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool are doing. He (Saul) is on the market now.

“They are not talking, or are in advanced talks with Atletico Madrid yet. I think it will take some weeks to understand what will happen with Barcelona and if the deal will collapse, English clubs could have an opportunity for him.”
