Man United midfielder Scott McTominay scored the only goal of the game during his side’s 1-0 win against West Ham United in the FA Cup. And it seems like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is planning to put his midfielder’s new-found goal-scoring form to good use.

Scott McTominay also scored a goal during Man United’s recent 3-3 draw vs Everton in the Premier League and according to his manager, the defensive midfielder can do a lot more in the final third of the pitch.

“Scott’s a clinical striker of the ball. He used to play as a striker, we know that, and he finishes with authority,” Old told MUTV, as reported by the club’s official website.

“Like, ‘bang’, finish. No messing about. No safety. That’s something we’ve got to learn from.

“For a defensive midfielder, we’ll have to unleash him and release him forward because he’s a goal threat in the box and he’s got a good strike on him.”

Scott McTominay has played in 30 games across all competitions for Man United this season and so far, he’s netted seven goals. And if Solskjaer’s comments are anything to go by then the manager is obviously encouraging the midfielder to make more of those late runs into the box.

The Scott along with Fred have been a rock-solid midfield partnership for Man United in recent months – whenever Paul Pogba is not playing.

And now that Pogba has picked up a muscle injury and will be on the sidelines for a few more weeks, McTominay will get more game time, especially in the Premier League. Nemanja Matic is also an option for Ole in the middle of the pitch but whenever the Serbian plays in midfield, the pace of the side drops and this is something the Man United boss does not want.
