The Scottish Premiership has been suspended indefinitely due to the ongoing pandemic and there have been fears that the season might have to be brought to an abrupt ending.

Some experts have claimed that the league should not be carried forward and that the authorities should end up naming Celtic as the new champions since they already have a massive 13 point lead at the top of the table.

But clearly this idea is not supported by many and now even UEFA have warned domestic leagues against abruptly ending the 2019-20 season since doing so could lead to harsh penalties.

This clearly means that the Scottish Premiership have no other option but to wrap up their remaining games and finish the league before the summer comes to an end.

And now in a bid to help the leagues do just that, UEFA have made a major adjustment to their European calendar.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has said that the Champions League and the Europa League will be finished by latest the 3rd of August meaning the domestic leagues have a lot of time to finish their respective seasons.

“It must finish by August 3, both the Champions League and Europa League,” Ceferin told German broadcaster ZDF, as quoted by MEN.

“It is an extraordinary situation we are in, so we are flexible on dates and kick-off times. If the crisis eases earlier, then we can start sooner.

“We could play with the current system, or in one-off matches played on neutral turf. For now, it’s just an option to play with a final eight or final four.

“The only wrong decision we could make now would be to play in a way that puts the health and safety of players, fans and referees at risk. However, if we are in secure conditions, then I don’t see the problem.”

Even if the Scottish Premiership plays out it’s remaining matching nothing much will change at the top of the table since Rangers look all set to miss out on yet another league title but down at the bottom a team like Hearts still have a chance of keeping their top-flight status.
