Celtic have been the undisputed kings in the Scottish Premiership for a number of years now and last season too they overcame the Rangers test quite easily.

The Bhoys managed to win the SPFL title with a margin of nine points despite the fact that many people believed that Steven Gerrard’s Rangers would be able to play spoilt sport.

While the Gers failed to muster up any sort of a major challenge for the title last season, Gerrard’s men have pulled up their socks this time around and are hoping to end Celtic’s dominance in Scotland.

Right now, both teams are level on points in the Scottish Premiership with Celtic sitting on top based on goal difference.

And according to Kris Boyd, the 2019-20 Premiership could be decided on the results of the Old Firm Derby.

Boyd told Sky Sports(as reported): “The four Old Firm games will separate them. Celtic had the advantage by picking up the three points from the last one but that’s gone because they are level (on points) at the top now.

“I didn’t think they would drop many points against the other teams but recently they have to Livingston and Hibs while Rangers drew at Hearts as well.

“It makes it interesting between now and the end of the season. There’s not much between the two teams this season.

“Celtic maybe have a bit more strength in depth in the midfield areas but for me, if Odsonne Edouard is to pick up an injury then Celtic are in big bother.”

VERDICT:

Last season everyone’s prediction fell short regarding Rangers’ challenge for the title but this campaign seems to be different.

The Gers have managed to cut down on their mistakes and are looking a more cohesive side – one capable of grinding out important results.

Celtic, on the other hand, lost Brendan Rodgers to Leicester City towards the start of this year and in all honesty, it was Rodgers who did all the tough work last season.

Neil Lennon has done a pretty stable job since he was appointed as the new boss but he will obviously be judged on the result of the Old Firm Derby and if Celtic fail to put their noses infront then surely Rangers have the golden opportunity of lifting their first since the 2010-11 season.
