Steve Bruce has taken charge of Newcastle United this summer after Rafa Benitez chose to leave the club and head to the Chinese Super League and one of his first jobs will be to keep Sean Longstaff at the club.

Sean Longstaff featured in only 9 Premier League games last season scoring one and assisting one goal. But the youngster is most certainly grabbed the attention of a number of big clubs.

The central midfielder has been tipped to reach great heights in the future and many reports have claimed that Man United could be his next destination this summer.

While some rumours have suggested that the Red Devils are pretty confident of signing Sean Longstaff but now Steve Bruce has made it very clear that the midfielder is not up for sale.

The new Toons boss has stated that the club are not focusing on the player’s knee injury and once he is back to full fitness, he will be playing for the St James’ Park outfit during the 2019-20 season.

“You never want to lose your best young players, and I think we’ve made it pretty evident that we won’t,” Bruce said.

“We’re concentrating on Sean now, getting his knee right. It’s his 10th or 11th training session since he hurt his knee.

“I’ll just repeat what the owner said – he’s not for sale.”

And this statement from Bruce comes at the very same time when club owner Mike Ashley was asked about the future of Sean Longstaff.

Mike Ashley in an interview with the Daily Mail has also seconded the opinion of his manager stating that the midfielder will not be shown the door this transfer window.

“The message we want to put out is that he is not for sale. If you’ve got one like Sean – keep him,” he has claimed.

Sean Longstaff though was not the only midfielder who has been linked with Man United this summer so we believe Solkskjaer has not missed out on much.
