Liverpool are frantically searching for a long-term replacement to Gini Wijnaldum and the current midfielder being linked with them is Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
Wijnaldum has officially been announced at PSG and as per TEAMtalk, Jurgen Klopp is planning to make a move for the 26-year-old Serbian international pretty soon.
The report claims: “Liverpool are reported to be ready to make contact with the agent of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic amid claims from Italy that the Lazio midfielder is Jurgen Klopp’s No 1 choice to replace Georginio Wijnaldum in the Reds midfield.
“According to Il Messaggero, Klopp is actually looking across the city at Lazio star Milinkovic-Savic.
“The Serbian will be a familiar name to Premier League fans due to his lengthy links with Manchester United. During the Jose Mourinho tenure, Milinkovic-Savic was a top target for the Red Devils.
“Once rated in the €120m bracket, Milinkovic-Savic has since seen his price fall in recent times.”
Is Sergej Milinkovic-Savic coming to Liverpool?
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic joined Lazio from Genk in 2015 for a fee in the region of £16 million and in these past six years, his market value has skyrocketed at the club.
During the 2020-21 season, the midfielder played in 32 Serie A games for Lazio, scoring eight and assisting 10 goals. And as per TransferMarkt, he is currently valued at £63 million.
The 26-year-old has three more years left on his current deal so the Italian side are in no hurry to offload him which is why Liverpool shouldn’t be expecting any sort of a discount – if Lazio are ready to sell at all.
Paying £65 odd million for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic should not be a big issue for Liverpool since they have retained their Champions League status but we are not sure if the club’s management will be ready to splurge such a huge fee on a single player this summer.

Also, the Anfield outfit have not pocketed a single penny from Wijnaldum’s move to PSG so anything they spend on a replacement will have to come from their own pockets.
Apart from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Liverpool are also being linked with Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans, a player who is considered in the same price bracket as the Lazio midfielder.
