Chelsea are leading the race to sign left-back Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid during the ongoing transfer window, as per a report in talkSPORT.
The report says: “Sergio Reguilon ‘prefers’ a move to the Premier League amid interest from Chelsea after being told he has no future at Real Madrid.
“The left-back has starred on loan at Sevilla this season, grabbing an assist against Manchester United in the Europa League semi-final.
“However, despite his three goals and five assists, Zinedine Zidane has indicated the 23-year-old is not part of his plans for next season.
“Ferland Mendy and Marcelo are currently vying for the left-back role and Reguilon is effectively available for a permanent transfer.
“According to Spanish outlet AS, Chelsea are leading the race for his signature as he wants to move to the Premier League and the Blues can offer Champions League football.”
Will Chelsea pull out of the race to sign Ben Chilwell?
If Sergio Reguilon is actually ready to play in the Premier League then there’s every chance that Frank Lampard will pull out of the race to sign Ben Chilwell from Leicester City.
The Foxes want nothing less than 80 million pounds for their talented left-back whereas Reguilon is available for less than half of what Leicester are quoting.
Apart from Chelsea, a few other European clubs(namely Napoli) are also keen to sign the 23-year-old but if he’s made up his mind for an English switch then the Blues have very little to worry about.
For Leicester City, though this could be a cause of concern since selling Ben Chiwell would have helped them gather a lot of necessary transfer funds for the ongoing transfer window but if the England international remains unsold then the club will have to pay for the new arrivals from out of their own pockets.
