Sevilla beat league leaders Real Madrid 2-1, to turn La Liga title race on its heads.

Sevilla came back from 1-0 down to end Real Madrid’s long unbeaten run. Real Madrid seemed to be cruising in the game. And it looked as if it was going to be a regulation win for Zidane’s side.

But all that changed when Sergio Ramos, the man who is known for his injury time headers, scored an own goal in the 85th minute. Suddenly it looked as if Real had lost the plot completely. Their midfield looked absolutely non-existent. They kept giving away the ball in crucial areas. And eventually, Sevilla made them pay as January signing Jovetic scored an injury-time goal for the home side, to hand the home side a win.

Sergio Ramos was in the line of fire for most of the match as he got some heavy stick from the home fans. There were even some complaints that a certain portion of the fans had directed abuse towards Ramos’ mother.

The win not only halted the Real Madrid juggernaut as their 40 game unbeaten streak came to a halt. But it also opened the La Liga top spot fight. This win takes Sevilla into the second spot just one point below leaders Real Madrid. But the biggest winners from this result were Barcelona obviously, who are now just 2 points behind Real Madrid.

Next, Real Madrid play host to Malaga while Sevilla travel to face Osasuna.
